1. Desire Under Distress: How Ethnic Conflict Shapes Fertility (Book Project)

My book project examines how ethnic conflict reshapes women’s fertility preferences and family decision-making. While most research finds that conflict suppresses fertility through displacement, economic disruption, and weakened health systems, I argue that identity-based violence creates distinctive demographic dynamics by increasing concerns about group continuity. The project combines cross-national statistical analyses, survey experiments, and qualitative interviews to understand how women navigate reproduction during ethnic conflict.

2. The Gendered Historical Consequences of Conflict

A second strand of my research investigates how historical political processes continue to shape gendered political and social behavior across generations. My work explores how wars, state-building, and political institutions leave enduring imprints on political participation, gender relations, and attitudes toward women in politics. By combining historical records with contemporary survey and electoral data, I examine how the consequences of conflict persist long after wars end.

3. Violence, Identity, and Political Behavior
 
My third research agenda examines how violence and identity shape political behavior beyond conventional battlefield settings. This work explores how coercion, social identities, and political narratives influence mobilization, governance, and extremist movements. Combining computational social science, spatial data, and cross-national analyses, I investigate how violence reshapes political behavior across a variety of contexts.

My Research

My research examines how conflict, identity, and gender shape political behavior and demographic decision-making. I am particularly interested in how political violence influences family formation, fertility preferences, and women’s lived experiences of conflict. Methodologically, I employ cross-national statistical analyses, survey experiments, and qualitative interviews to study these questions across diverse contexts. You can find a complete list of  my publications and working projects below.
